You may think it odd that our intro class is for all ages, rather than split up into different age groups.
The thing is, the sword doesn't know how old you are.
In classical fencing, size, strength and speed are of very little importance.
Skill, cunning and composure are the essentials of excellence.
Students - no matter what their age - start at the exact same place, and follow the exact same skill progression.
To progress from one rank to the next we require that you be able to execute the necessary skills correctly.
Your rank is not determined by your age, or by how long you have been studying with us.

Most people might assume that a class WITH kids in it is a class FOR kids. They might expect the class to be "dumbed down" to a "kid level." Not so with classical fencing.
We don't treat adults like children, and we don't treat children like adults.
We treat each individual with respect, and require that everyone else does, as well.

Many people might also expect that a class "for kids," and especially a physical activity class, held in a gymnasium, will be an environment that includes kids running around, being disruptive or disrespectful, and not paying attention - conditions that would make it difficult for an adult (or anyone) to learn, or at least very unpleasant. You will not find this to be true of our classes. We hold EVERYONE, regardless of age, to the same standards of conduct, for two reasons. The first is that everyone's safety depends on the proper behavior of everyone in the room. The other is that self-discipline and courtesy are an integral part of what we do.

If you are hesitant to take a class with us, because you think you'll be wasting your time in a "class full of kids," we invite you to contact us to arrange to observe a class.

We believe you'll be pleasantly surprised.
